I put together a new system for my father for xmas. Here is what I put together:
Cooler Master Case
DFI Lan Party UT NF3250 Mobo
AMD Athlon64 3200+ Socket 754
512Mb Kingston HyperX PC4000 RAM
eVGA GeForce 6200 256Mb AGP
350W Antec True Power PSUThis system was basically my old system I had but I built a new one from scratch. I took the 40Gb HD from my fathers old computer, which is IDE by the way, and put it in the new one. It boots just fine, but it says "Invalid Boot.ini" in a black screen, then goes to the Windows Loading screen and throws a Blue Screen of death. I tried running a WinXP repair on it, but it didn't work.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what is causing it? I was thinking about connecting it to my computer, copying his stuff, then wiping the HD clean and doing a fresh install of Windows, but if I can avoid all that it would be great. Thanks.AMD64 3700@2.4GHz San Diego
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Mobo
2x 1GB Corsair XMS PC3200
Zalman 7700 CPU Cooler
2x 256Mb BFG GeForce 7800 GTs in SLi
160Gb Cuda IDE HD
80Gb WesternDig IDE HD<b

The first thing to try is to boot from the Windows XP CD. Go to the Repair Console via the first repair option you get. You will need the Administrators password for this.
From the prompt type Bootfix. That should fix the boot.ini problem.
However, taking a Windows XP installation from one computer and installing it in another wont work unless the two computers are identical. The repair install you have already done may have fixed this.
