I just bought a Netgear WPN824 router and a D-Link DWA-643 for my ASUS S96J laptop. I was very disappointed to find out that my card is only running at 54mb/s and has shorter range than my internal Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG. I hope this is just a setting because I don't see how something that is $100 could a lot worse than something that was a lot cheaper. Thanks for the help.

sounds like u got RIPPED OFF ... try exchanging the wireless card for a better one... do some research... you could probably get a 802.11n one with 300MBPs for a few bucks more...
@tiger direct
d-link 300mbps 802.11n - $130
either a pcmcia or a pci 802.11n adapter will cost 140-150

While DWA-643 is a 802.11n the Netgear WPN824 is 802.11g so that is all you are going to get. To get anything fater than 54 Mbs you are going to need a 892.11n wirless router.

No 802.11n wirless card is going to work any faster with an 802.11g router.

The router is Super-G and XR. I though that all that was pre-N technology. So should I at least get 108 on the card because it is compatible with all those features right?

Not necessarily. The 802.11n specification is still only provisional and has not yet been ratified. So until it is there is not telling exactly what the specifications are compatible with.
