Next door neighbour was using my old pc on dial up fixed account with an internal modem, worked fine. He gave it to a friend with pre-paid dialup and the internal modem wouldn't dial. We have tried 6 accounts 1 fixed, the rest pre-paid. The fixed line is fine but the pre-paid doesn't work, I had to attach an external modem for it to work. The internal modem is a SwannSmart II and I installed the correct drivers but still no luck.

Has anyone heard of this type of problem or do you know a fix for it?

You need to change the type of dialup server you are trying to connect to PPP..This is in the setup options.
