Around a week ago, I posted this:
x-fi can't take the heat?

It turned out not to be a heat-related problem. Yesterday night I was playing with different settings, and found that disabling Aero Glass solved all of my audio problems. Games, movies, and music all sound perfect now. I played Bioshock for nearly two hours last night and didn't hear one glitch. With Aero Glass enabled, the sound would crap out after just half an hour of use.

I guess I'll never know exactly what goes on underneath Vista's hood. Whodathunk that Aero Glass could affect the audio system?

If any of you ever experience crackling/stuttering audio under Vista, then try running one of the three 2D interfaces (Vista Basic, Windows Standard, or Windows Classic) instead of the 3D Aero Glass. It may very well solve your problem.

I'll definitely miss seeing Aero Glass on my main system. But, I guess that's what the Super P3 is for--it produces very clean audio with an X-Fi card, even with Aero Glass enabled. I guess most computers do...lol.

I can't be certain, but I think Creative have a patch or driver update that addresses that very issue.

I've tried every little patch I could get my hands on, as well as different driver versions.

None of them worked as well as turning off Aero Glass.

It's probably not related to your problems, Jackbomb. But I have had audio problems with some programs and found that tweaking the 'Hardware Acceleration' in the control panel audio options made a difference.

(Edit) No Problem Jackbomb! My post was a poor one and probably should be deleted.

It has to be related to the audio problem, as unlikely as it would seem. If I re-enable Aero Glass, I run into the same problem. Can't even get through a whole album with Aero Glass enabled. The audio works perfectly with any one of the three 2D interfaces.

Edit: Sorry aegis, I think I misread your post. :)

A quick guess, is audio sharing irq with video card, may need to install in different pci slot or manually change irq. Start/ run/ type "msinfo32.exe" no quotes and look under hardware resources/irq's.See if your sound card shares the same irq as video or other demanding hardware.
( didnt notice the vista thing, but run command should work)
