Intel 82865g for Windows 98 Problem

Specs: Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Intel Pentium 4 Processor 3.2GHz / 1 GB Ram (512mb limit is a lie)

the computer i have has the intel 82865g integrated graphics chip, and after i install the proper graphics chip, it always bsod and the display proprerties always go crazy. anybody know how to fix this?

What do you mean by "install the proper graphics chip"? Do you mean install graphics chip driver? Are you using this one?

i meant driver, and yes, i used that one.

Assuming you're doing everything right and it's a driver problem, you might try an earlier version. Intel only linked to one earlier one--ver 13.6:

Based on the two file names Intel has (win9x1361.exe and win9x136.exe) then win9x135.exe will be the version before that. A google search will turn up download links.

Be sure to uninstall what you're using now before trying something else. Try it in safe mode if you keep getting BSODs.

the problem is still there with the earlier version. how can intel screw this up?

Does it boot to safe mode? If so, change the display resolution to something simple like 800 x 600 and the refresh rate (frequency) to adapter default. Save settings and see if it'll reboot in normal mode.
