installing win 3.11

Microsoft Windows 3.11

Specs: windows 3.11
15 years ago I could install Win 3.11 with my eyes closed so I don't understand my current problem. Clean hard drive fdisked and formatted. Installed DOS6.22. Express install (minimal user intervention) of Win 3.11. It then sits and stares at me and will not accept mouse or keyboard input at all. During installation the mouse and (obviously) keyboard worked. Laptop BIOS has been set to "Mouse on Mouse Port". Also tried another mouse on serial port but same result. Any advice gratefully accepted.

Could be hard drive size, memory allocation, mouse type.

Jeez. 3.1! Haven't done that in couple of weeks.

Good luck.

It is bad luck to be superstitious.

I would suggest starting over.
Reinstall win3.1

Do not install DOS 6.22
If you need DOS 6.22, create another partition to put it on.

You need some version of dos on there since win 3.1 is really just a dos program.

Depending on where it hangs during installation maybe one of the floppies is bad. You may want to post back cpu, ram and HD size.

Thanks for replies. For interests sake the plot thickens! I tried again this morning with a serial mouse and to my amazement it now works in Win3.11 but ........ the keyboard still doesn't. So - using the mouse - I exit to DOS and (would you believe it) the keyboard now doesn't work here either! Isn't life fun.
