Specs: Windows XP, AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2010 Mhz
Dear experts!

I am trying to install SATA 250GB WESTERN DIGITAL WD2500AAKS.
My specs are:
VIA KT600 mboard
Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Microsoft Windows XP Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3

The system doesn't see the new HDD. I think it's properly connected. Setting the jumper on 5-6 doesn't help. (
Where should I look next, what do you think?
Thank you in advance.

SATA drives dont need jumpers to be set. Make sure its plugged into SATA 0, Also your computer probably doesnt have the right drivers to detect the drive. Check out, or similar sites.

You could run it in IDE mode but you would lose any performance on it.

Thank you, a driver update helped.
Now it is seen through Control Panel -- System and VIA V-RAID utility, but I can't access it through My Computer. Probably I need to 'partition' it etc.?
Can you recommend a good free utility?
