The computer will not boot with added ram.
I currently have 320 mb sdram . I tryed adding another 256 windows would not boot.
So I took out the 64mb and put the 2 256mb chips in the 1st 2 slots still showed an error would not boot. So I removed the new 256chip and put in the original 64 and 256
chips and it posted saying I needed to choose the last good configuation that worked so I selected the option and pressed
enter and the computer booted up properly
I have never run into this normally when I
install ram it just works. Is there somthing
I am missing. I thought 256 pc133 is all I
needed to purchase more memory. Is there
something in the bios that needs to be changed for the new memory to be detected?

You need to check with a number of issues.
1. Some MOBOs will not recognise newer high density memory chips, thus an 8 chip Module may not be acceptable and you'd need a 16 chip solution.
2. The MOBO may not be able to manage ANY 256Mb solutions.
2. There are other items such as CAS, refresh rate, and so on..
Take your PC system unit [box only] to the shop where you bought the memory and get them to find an appropriate macth for you MOBO, remeber to take the MOBO manual with you.
