When you install RAM, besides actually plugging it in, and changing the Virtual Memory, is there anything else that needs to be done????

Dude no, all you gotta do is put the ram in the slot.... virtual memory? isn't that something different?

besides windows just detects the new RAM you don't have to install anything

Virtual Memory is a piece of the Hard Drive trhe computer uses as RAM when it runs out of Real RAM. You shouldnt have to increase your virtual Memory when you add more RAM, but your should keep your Virtual Memory(pagefile) to a good Number.

In XP, if your CRTL ALT DELETE and go to Performance it will tell you how much of the Virual Memory (PF - Pagefile) is being used.
That number obviously increases as you do more stuff, like games.

I would check through the bios settings in set up, as normally there is a section there relating to memory and it will confirm whether or not it has been recognised.

When removing or fitting ram, treat it with great respect and gentility, also take anti-static precautions.

Good luck - keep us posted.
