Hi this is the first time for me to install ram. The ram I have I pulled out of another machine so I am not even sure it is working. I have 256mgs in one slot right now and the stick of ram I want to install is 128mgs. Well I did get it in but when I booted I was greeted with 3 beeps, it waited and then repeated the beeps but nothing else. Nothing showing on the monitor. So I pulled out the 128 stick and the machine booted with my old ram. Well the stick I pulled out of the other machine is 128mb UNB PC133 CL3. What I have in my machine is much newer as my machine is only 1.7 years old I think. So is it possible. Did I do something wrong or is the ram not working?

on the edge that you insert into the motherboard there are circular notches. How many does the old ram have?

First of all, you need to make sure the MOBO can handle additional RAM, and then you need to ensure you have the correct modules. Go to www.crucial.com and enter the correct machine information. FYI, AMD is not the machine Manufacturer.
Soylent Green is PEOPLE!!!

Frankly, I'd say this experiment is already over. Either the old, used RAM is bad (unlikely) or is just plain not compatible with your motherboard.
As above, either the Crucial or Kingston website can "tell" you what and how much RAM your system can handle, assuming you know the system model, or motherboard model.

It is not the right RAM for that motherboard obviously. www.crucial.com to see what it requires. Guessing is just not a good solution.

Thanks will check out all the sites suggested. I think it is DDR ram that I have. So hard to remember all the specs from 1.5 years ago when I bought this machine. One of the ram sticks did fit but I got that beeping when I booted and the other one wouldn't go in. I took a gamble because the sticks were free. I can't afford to go out and buy anything! Thanks again.
