Hi.

My computer (mid-size tower) needs a new power supply. I want a cheap silent one (don't want to spend on a TT or antec one). The cheapest come with 12cm horizontal fans on the bottom.
These must blow air from the PSU into the case?
Will this cause heat problems?
Are they designed for special cases in which they won't cause problems?
This particular computer is a AMD Duron 800, the mobo has inbuilt graphics so there is no graphics card to get hot.

Is it ok to install one such PSU in this tower?

Thanks.

Thats on oxymoron when it comes to power supplies.

Yes it will. On an ATX motherboard it will be blowing hot air right onto the CPU. You need a CPU with an extraction fan on the back.

Thanks for that Stuart.

I think any PSU would be at lease more silent then my current one, lol.
Oh well, if I want to do myself a favour I guess I will buy a more expensive one.

Good thinking, buy a good quality one. When these babies blow, and a cheap one can do it easily, they often times take most of the system with them. Cheapen up somewhere else.
Here is real good and cheap!

Jam is recommending a good PSU here. I bought this unit from newegg.com, and it has worked fine. BTW, if you're not in a real hurry, NewEgg often puts this PSU on sale, and sometimes ships it for free.

heres a slighly cheaper model with same specs, and a real cheaper version.
I think since your system is older, the 10$ one will work great.
good name to.

Regarding the Thermaltake 420 watt PSU, didn't mean to slight you, Rich! So I'll give you credit and jam honorable mention. And now's the time to order it ... free shipping.

Hi...I am finding it difficult to find PSUs...I am in Australia so don't really want to order from a US site.

The recommended PSUs are dual fan ones. These still blow air onto the CPU? Also, I am looking for a silent one.
Is it Ok to install one of these PSUs without it causing problems with heat?
I don't want to buy a new CPU cooler.

If it is I will probably get the Antec True Power 330 as I don't don't need a big PSU...this PC has a 250W PSU in it now.

Thanks for the help!

me again....by hard to find I mean, hard to find ones I like...

Also with the dual fan PSUs does the fan inside the case suck air into the PSU? and the back one blow?
If this is the case then I guess it won't cause heat problems.

Thanks again.
