Hi all,

I have bought a dvd writer to replace my cd writer. I've removed the cd writer drive and replaced it with the new dvd writer, with the ide cable and power supply plugged in. I can open the drive (via eject button on the front) but unfortunately windows doesnt find it at all... Apparently i am meant to be able to use it as a normal dvd drive with the generic windows driver, but seen as its not being found i cant do that. Any help would be much appriciated.

Cheers Pete

in normal situations what you have done would work as long as:
The jumper on the back of the drive has been set to the same as on the drive you removed
&
you have definitely not got the IDE cable plugged in back to front. Some are Keyed to stop that , some are not keyed.
