I installed the Benq Scanner v4.03 on my laptop and after restarting the computer, the 'found new hardware message says 'Flatbed Scanner 22'. And then it asks to update this driver from Microsoft update. The scanner does not work at all and I get the message that the scanner is not on or that the usb cable needs to be inserted firmly.

Is the scanner certified to work with XP? The reason I ask is because I noticed the current version is 6.5 not 4.03.

Is it a Mirascan brand scanner, or is it a Benq brand scanner with Mirascan software?
As far as I have researched previously, if it is a Mirascan brand scanner, it is probably one made before XP came out.
Acer used to sell scanners under the Acer brand name, but as well the same scanners were sold under the Vuego and Mirascan brand names. All of them had drivers supplied by Mirascan. Benq scanners probably still do.
I'm not sure what the relationship was, but I suspect Mirascan sold most of their scanners OEM to Acer and Vuego who sold them retail as Acer or Vuego models, and Mircscan also sold a smaller number of them retail under their own Mirascan brand name.Support for these scanners is now handled by Benq, and in many cases drivers have been developed for XP for them, even if they didn't originally come with them.
I know Vuego model labelling is very similar to Acer labelling and the model numbers themselves are often the same so you can often find Acer drivers that work for Vuego models them by finding the Acer model number that is the same as the Vuego model number , but I'm not sure if Mirascan model numbers are similar.Look for drivers or manuals for the same model number:
http://www.benq.comI took a look - there are no Win XP and 2000 drivers for some older models.
If Benq doesn't have the Win XP or Win 2000 drivers nobody does because they were never developed.
There are several Benq regional web sites. If you don't find the ones you need at the global site, try another site - e.g. Australia.
