I have a Dell 4300S so there was no extra bay for me to install an internal CDRW w/out removing the CD-Rom drive. I installed an internal drive but the drive is not recognized by my computer (so installing the software/drivers is a problem) Could I have hooked up the Master/Slave/CS settings wrong? I have no clue what I am doing. Since this is my only CD drive - what setting SHOULD I have set it on?
The drive does operate (door opens/closes) so I know something is hooked up right :)

You didn't explain how you hooked it up. Did you use the same cable that was used with the old CD drive? If ya did, just take a look at the back of the drive you removed & see how the jumper is set...then double check that the jumper on the CDRW drive is set the same way. Make sure your ribbon cable is plugged in securely & turned the right way...

First make sure that the cd drive is set to Master and is on the secondary IDE channel.
then when you plug the Gray cord in with the red lie (IDE) make sure the red lie (PIN ONE) is closest to the power

It does not `have' to be Master `or' on the Secondary channel.
