I have been stupid recently and mucked around with my BIOS settings and since then my computer won’t boot up from the hard drive. Could you please tell me how to set it up again? When I press DEL to enter Setup the BIOS that comes up has the following heading:

ROM PCI/ISA BIOS (2A5L9F09)
CMOS SETUP UTILITY
AWARD SOFTWARE, INC.

My hard drive is a WESTERN DIGITAL Caviar 2850
MDL: WDAC2850-23F
Thank you so much for your time in reading this as I have no other help source, I have tried everything.
Thank you,
Lex Stewart

Ok, Lex, Let's see if we can get this puppy going again. You will need to reset your BIOS to default. There are several ways of doing it. When you get into the setup, at the bottom of the screen there should be a control key indicated for that purpose; reset to default. This should then allow you to redetct your hard drive(s) and CD-ROM, etc. WHen this is done, exit and say yes to save. You should be able to boot up, now. Let me know what happens and we'll go from there. OK?

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your help.
I did as you asked and upon saving & leaving BIOS the computer started to boot up. The following occurred:

Updating ESCD...Success
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.

So I inserted a Windows 95 floppy boot disk and pressed enter.
The following occurred:

Your program caused a divide overflow error. If the problem persists, contact your program vendor.

The whole time since that message came up nothing else happened except that the floppy disk was constantly getting read. So I removed it and reset the computer.
The computer started to boot again but this message came up again:

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.

So I inserted the win 95 boot disk again and nothing else happened except for a little blinking dash with the floppy disk getting read the whole time.
This is were I'm at now. HELP!

Maybe things still aren’t right with the BIOS?
There is also an option LOAD SETUP DEFAULTS should I select that one two since the LOAD BIOS DEFAULTS one doesn’t seem to be working for us.
Thanks for your time.
Lex

Take the CMOS battery out if it is removable and 30 seconds later put it back in this will clear the BIOS!

Sorry for the delay, Lex. The 4th and all. Yeah follow x86's advice, above. That should clear out any weird junk in your BIOS memory. Then, go into setup and let it detect your hard drive. You can email me if this doesn't take care of it, nd you will contact me quicker. Maybe. Anyway, good luck. :)
