Not sure if it's the same, but my Thinkpad at work is a T30. There's a small "slide button" on the side...when it is moved toward the front of the unit, a "pull lever" pops out. Give that a yank & the optical drive (or floppy) will come out. To install, you just slide the new drive in place & push the pull lever in until it catches. That's it!

find and download the "hardware maintenance manual" as well as the "user manual" and one or both of these publications will tell you all you need to know
