installing an SATA hard drive

Specs: Windows XP
I have an ASUS P4BGL-MX motherboard and have purchased a WD SATA Hard Drive. I now realize I need to purchase a SATA controller card as my motherboard has no SATA conection. Here's my question, will the controller card provide power to the hard drive or do I need to purchase a power cable too? Any help would be much appreciated.

Why wouldn't you just exchange the SATA HDD for a PATA/IDE HDD rather than going thru the hassle of adding a controller card & a buying an adapter for the power?

As jam said why not exchange it, if that's not possible and the drive doesn't have a standard power connector as well sata one (some do) than yes, you will have to get that too.

Unfortunately I bought the drive at an Office Depot that went out of business and I can't exchange it. On the bright side the price I paid will allow me to purchase the pci connector and power adapter and still save a couple $. Thanks for the help.
