Installation nightmare/ continuing faults

Microsoft Windows xp professional w/serv...

Specs: Windows XP Pro
I've been battling a hard drive for months, and finally gave in and decided to replace it after it REFUSED to allow me to partition or format it due to missing files (I tried every way possible except from the c-prompt.) Now, trying to install XP Pro (3) I am STILL getting error messages, having to do with the BIOS. I would flash the BIOS but I can't seem to get to the c-prompt to run a floppy with the BIOS .exe update no matter what I do - I cannot get Windows to run to get it from there and I can't access it from the boot. I'm not stupid, but I'm not an expert and I get the feeling I am forgetting something really, really simple (like an F-key command.) Help?

Don't flash the BIOS unless you're really certain it will help and you know what you're doing - you could make things worse.

What point does the system get to when you boot from the installation CD?

If you are getting messages about the BIOS then try accessing it and resetting it to defaults, check time and date, then change the boot order to floppy/CD/HDD. Restart with the CD in the drive and it should get you to 'press any key to boot from the CD'.

I'm able to install the drivers from the boot disk, but as soon as it comes to partitioning the disk and installing WIndows, I get an error of one kind or another. (I've tried it different times) I've physically "reset" the CMOS, but I don't seem to be able to reset the BIOS - can you point me in the right direction? The Device Manager won't allow me to do anything to the BIOS and I've already change the boot order - I've put back the old HD to try to see what I can do there. I still can't access the c prompt.
