Thanks in advance,
Wanting to install my old LS-120 drive in this one-year-old computer.
At the top is the DVD drive behind a little hinged spring-loaded door. Below that is another little spring-loaded door.
I assumed that I could install the LS-120 drive in this location behind the second door just like I did on my old e-machines computers, But no...Open the door and there is a perforated metal wall.
Took the side panel off and looked for way to gain acces to the bay. Looks like the metal box containing the DVD drive only has an opening for one drive. I'm thinking maybe I can remove the other side panel, separate the front panel and remove a knock-out section of the box.
I cant really tell if there is a knock-out, and I hate to start taking things apart only yo run into a dead end. I'm not willing to saw out an openning.
This was an trivial job in my 10 years old e-machines. Can anybody advise me on this? Thanks.
Not much to like about Acer in general IMO. First and last Acer for me.

If you don't have the manual which came with the computer, then try to find the specifications of your computer on the manufactuers website. There should be a description of available bays on the computer. If the specifications show more bays then you have peripheral devices, then you know you have an available bay "somewhere". For example, if the computer specs says there are two 5" bays, and the DVD drive is the only 5" device you have, then you know there is an open 5" bay somewhere. Same if the specs say there is a 3" bay (don't get confused with the 3" internal bays for hard drives) like for a floppy disk drive or your LS-120, but you don't have a floppy drive, then you know you have a 3" bay available for your LS-120. Once you know there is a space for the drive, then it is worth your time to try and figure out how to access the space to install the LS-120. Option 2: these USB to IDE adapters have gotten really cheap, you could just buy an external box and fix up your LS-120 where it is a completely external USB device, then it'll work on any computer and you won't have to do this again.

Often the metal grill/plate blocking an unused drive bay will be spot-welded on. It takes a bit of back and forth bending to break the welds.
I don't know about that case specifically but if that is a drive bay then there has to be a way to make it usable.

Thanks to DaveinCaps and pyrolitic...Hadn't thought about making it an external. Good idea.
Maybe if I get some spare time I'll try getting it torn down further and getting/making acces to the drive bays. There clearly are extra drive bays, because Acer uses green plastic sliding wedges to secure the drives in the bays and there some not being used. Its just that the fronts of the extra bays have sheet steel covering them. Thanks again.
