Greetings,

Do you suppose that I could install the DVD/CR-RW combo drive fom my year-old e-machines desktop machine to the six-years-old400Mhz win 98 e-machines?

What would I need to do?

I replaced the combo drive in the newer machine with a DVD-RW drive

Thanks

What brand/model is the combo drive? Visit the maker's website to check system requirements.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

I have a couple Mad Dog CDRW/DVD player drives. All it says under 'system requirements' is 'pentium, celeron, AMD K6, duron/athlon 32 MB RAM'.

I installed one of them in a system similar to yours.

The possible problems would be reduced writing speed and playback of DVD media.
