Indentifying ECC Ram

I need to know how to indetify whether Ram is ECC or Non. I am helping a friend build a new computer, and we need to know if we bought the right type. Also what is non registered ram.

Usually ECC RAM will will have some form of extra chip on it:

Boot your PC into M$-DOS, hit F8 just before the Windows 9x splash screen, this will give you an option menu. NT systems require DOS boot disk.

Use a DOS program like any of the following and will ID your MoBo, memory etc:
