I have recently formatted the hard drive on a friends pc. I know the size of the drive is 6GB. When I run fdisk now the partition is reading the full 6GB and at FAT32. However when using windows and looking at the size of c: drive it is only reading 3GB does anyone know why.

How did you partition the drive with Fdisk?

In the first instance I was having great trouble at boot up so I formatted the drive first and tried to load Win Me. I had difficulty with this. I then ran fdisk and deleted the main partition. I then tried to use two partitions but all hell broke loose so I decided to go through the whole process again. To be honest after another formatting I can't remember how I partitioned the drive. I managed to load Win Me and just checked the display part of fdisk which shows the c drive is 6GB using FAT 32 system. It is possible that it has something to do with me trying to create an extended partition but I can't understand why everything looks fine in fdisk.

"all hell broke loose"!?

Seems that you have nearly created two partitions. You have created a primary partition of 3GB. So far so good.

Did you create an extended partition? If so, did you create any logical drives within the extended partition?

If you haven't formatted the entire disk, it won't show up.

When I run fdisk I get the following information
Partition c:1, Status A, Type Pri DOS, vol.label (blank) mbytes 6230, System FAT32, Usage 100%. It won't allow me to create anything else. The only thing it will allow me to do is delete the primary dos partition.Yet when in Windows the c: drive is only reading 3.2GB ??
