hi all,

here's mi rig :

amd athlon xp 2500
abit nf7-s m/b
gecube ati radeon 9600xt 256mb ram
1 x kingston cl3 valueram 256mb (ram slot 3)
1 x corsair cl2.5 valuaselect 512mb (ram slot 1) dual channel
1 x maxtor sata I 80gb
1 x benq cdrw
1 x samsung 52x cdrom

here's what happaned :

i went to buy 2 x 512mb corsair value select ram sticks this morning. i took out the kingston 256mb ram and put in the 2 sticks of corsair rams. upon booting, it says 512mb....
i thought i did not place in properly, so i took them out and tried again. still no luck. so i took out the old ram (corsair) stick and place the 2 new stick into slot 1 and 2. now, it boot up showing 1gb of ram. so i try adding the "old" corsair stick into the 3rd slot and it still show 1gb. shouldn't i get 1.5gb in all?

note : the "old" corsair ram is double sided and the 2 new stick is single sided. i"ve no much knowledge on ram, so i wonder if there's compatibility problem?

thanks

I suspect that the unmatched sticks are the source of your problem.

This Crucial.com search results page for the ABIT NF7-S shows the applicaple RAM for that board.

Dual channel mode is a function of the motherboard, not the RAM. If you want to run in dual channel mode, just install the matched pair of 512MB Corsair. If you add a 3rd stick, you're no longer running dual.

thanks for all the reply.

bryco,

both the new (single sided) and old (double sided) worked on the abit's board seperately. so i was thinking if the board doesn't work with both single and double sided ram in it? or faulty ram slot?

jam,

yuppz, i know that. my main concern is not dual channel...all i wanted is to hv 1.5gb on that board. is it that single and double sided ram doesn't work tohether on that board?

thanks
