Comment:

I have substituted a 3-year CRT monitor (Liteon 17") by a new TFT Benq FP71G X (8 ms).

Image looks evidently worse in the new monitor. Looks like the pixes were "less defined", so a text in small fonts (for instance, menus in internet explorer) looks less nitid.... how would I say, as if they were displayed in a VGA card, 20 years ago...

Graphic card is an nVidia Gforce4 MX 440 64 MB, perfectly working.

I would like to know if this could be considered normal, both monitors are budget monitors (Liteon 128€ 3 years ago) and Benq 230€ just yesterday)

thanks

Start by setting up cleartype from Microsoft - it's meant for tft monitors & lets you choose the best font settings. Then read the manual for your monitor - they usually have a default setting which are for initial set-up but you can tweak a lot of the other settings for a better picture.

The better alternative to M$ clear type may be...

ClearTweak For LCD Monitors

quoted Wombat:

I wear glasses (reading/distance), and enabling clear type makes it easier to read on my LCD. I used Microsoft's Cleartype power toy to get the type the way I wanted it. Now having used this new ClearTweak the type is more crisper looking. :)
I try stuff before I post anything, if it works for me I'll share the info, if it don't work I do not post it...

Beside the cleartype, what is your resolution? I have BenQ T701 and my resolution is 1024X768 (BenQ native)

I will check Cleartype, but I have to mention that my wallpaper is a digital picture, and again, looked with more detail in the cRT than in the tft

I have heard that CRT display better than tft, but I am not sure on that

Cleartype (in fact Clear-Tweak has "resharpened" the fonts. Now they look darker and bolder, and they have a littler green-shadow, as well.

Everyone says TFT monitors are better. Mine couldn't be an exception. Might the graphic card be too old (3 years) to support it?

thanks
