Have I made a mistake here? I ordered additional RAM for my motherboard I wanted 2 x 256MB PC 3200 DDR400 184 pin on ebay I won the following item but although it said it was for the above it said it came out of a iMac (G5-1.6GHz. My question is will this RAM for an iMac work in my standard windows XP desktop PC.

I suggest you go to crucial.com and access their online scan tool to determine EXACTLY what RAM will work in your computer.

Thanks for your reply; however you haven't really answered my question. I can quite easily find out which Ram WILL work with my motherboard, but I would like to know if there is a difference between imMc Ram and PC Ram

If the computer takes the same type and speed RAM then NO there shouldn't be any difference.

That said, many computers have memory controllers that are tweaked for RAM of certain specs. I don't mean the speed. I am referring to the CAS and other specs. For that reason many PC motherboard makers have a recommended RAM list.

When you enter the Laptop arena the RAM selection can become even more picky.

That is why you should use recommended RAM.
