IMac OSX DVD stuck b/c of disk damg

Specs: Macintosh X 10.5.6
I borrowed a DVD from the library that had a small
crack near the center hole, but didn't run into the DVD,
so I thought I would try it. It played, but now it won't
eject. It shows that I have a disk and I can press the
eject key. It attempts to eject because the noise is
there, but then the DVD player starts again to play the
movie. The DVD doesn't even stick out a little so I
can grab it. My new IMac doesn't have one of those
manual eject buttons where you stick a paper clip in,
and I don't know what else to do. Please help!

Turn off system. At boot try the eject button on the drive.

If not

Turn off system.

Gently pry the tray open. There is normally a cover that might pop off. In the center the tray is generally able to access.

If the DVD has shifted or broken apart you might just be out of luck.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

There is a small hole right below the tray that you can insert a straightened paper clip. The large paperclips work best. It will only open a small distance then you should be able to pull it the rest of the way.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried all the possible ways to
eject, including rebooting and holding down the mouse or
eject button during startup. My machine tries to eject each
time, but the DVD was physically stuck.

My machine is one of the new Intel flat screen with the
superdrive. There is no tray like on other models, just a slot
that you slide the disk into, therefore I couldn't try the
suggestions about the tray.

I actually just got back from the repair shop. I had to pay $80
for the techies to open the computer up and manually get the
disk out. The center hole of the DVD had a piece that was
cracked and sticking up a little and they told me that was the
reason it was stuck. Thank goodness it didn't mess up my

Thanks for the suggestions.
