Following on from a long-lasting problem which I have now solved, which I posted a topic for not too long ago on here, I have got a new problem and I thought it'd best go in a new topic.
The problem is simple to explain, but difficult to solve. This is the problem:
When the computer is off, I'll press the Power button on the front to turn it on (obviously). I get fans and lights, but no image on the screen, so I turn it off anf try again. Rinse and repeat approximately five times, THEN it will boot normally into Windows.
Why doesn't the computer start normally, first time every time?

Hi, Have a listen to the Hard Drive on boot. If you hear it when it does boot but not when it does not then the drive is suffering from "Sticktion". Drives run 24/7 probably get that way real often.
Luck, Jim

I can't hear the drive at any time. I rely on the red light telling me when there is hard drive activity.
I can't remember what the light does at the moment when the computer doesn't boot though. I'd have to get back to you with about that one.

The HDD wouldn't prevent the POST screen from being displayed....
Could be a weak or failing power supply.

Yes, the new PSU had come to mind, because I don't know where my bro got it from. Al li know about it is that it's second-hand.
The old one is cream crackered though, so we can't even test that theory without buying a new one.

Yes, a machine will POST with or without a drive present, so that's not a realistic explanation
PSU seems most likely - as advised, check its mobo connections - also wouldn't hurt to check the AC cord and outlet or powerbar.
You are, once again, Microsoft's bitch

Thanks. I'll post this message on there too. I haven't had a chance to look at the power connectors yet though, but it booted yesterday after a few attempts as it does, and I found that also the DVD ROM drive wasn't working also.
The drive obviously has power, because I can open and close the disc tray and I can hear it working as wel as the green light flashing on the front, but the icon doesn't appear in My Computer for it and nothing autoplays from it.
