I have a fujitsu 20 gig HD that all of a sudden will not boot if its on an ide cable with another device. If its on a shared cable then the system hangs at bootup at "detecting ide devices". If its on a separate ide it boots fine..and yes i have master/slave jumpers set correctly.

In addition to being jumpered correctly, newer (ATA 100, for sure) systems require that the master be on the end of the cable, slave in the middle, and the long end plugged into the motherboard. I can't imagine a conflict hanging the system, though.

I don't know about Fujitsu, but I know that Western Digital drives have different plugging for their drives if the drive is alone on a cable or not.
