If you're talking about the difference between a current parallel ATA/133 drive and a serial ATA/150 drive, no, there's not much practical difference. However, you should see some difference between an ATA/100 drive and a SATA drive, and a dramatic difference between an old ATA/66 drive and a SATA drive.
