I want to upgrade the IDE HD in a Dell Dimension 8250 to a 300GB SATA HD. Do I need to buy a new HD controller or with a IDE to SATA converter will be enough? The BIOS will support the SATA HD?

An IDE to SATA convertor should do the job. It won't matter if the Bios supports SATA or not (it probably doesn't), because the drive will appear to the bios as an IDE drive.
But a wiser choice would be to get an IDE 300GB drive.
