Subject: Ide to Sata converter???OS: XP HomeCPU/Ram: P.4/1gig DDR2Model/Manufacturer: IntelD945Pvs |
Comment: Hi all, I set up my new computer Ive been gathering parts for over several months now and got everything going pretty well except for my Sata to IDE converter? I have a 80 gig WD IDE as my main drive and a Maxtor SATA 250 gig as my storage drive. I have my DVD burner as my IDE slave and wanted to either put my DVD rom or the WD HD on SATA useing a converter. I have tried everything I can think of and I cant get the converter to work? I have the Bios set on Raid and am useing the Matrix storage manager software that came with the MB,the Maxtor has no problems being seen in the Bios on the SATA controller but nothing else can be seen when I hook it up(Ive tried setting the jumper as Master/Slave /CS,no jumper, plugging in the SATA cable after restart ect)...??? Are these converters a waste of time???

Reply: (edit)http://www.addonics.com/products/io/adsaide.asp It seems you can convert SATA to IDE but not the other way around. You may try with a USB 5.25 in. box that offer SATA or IDE support. It is odd that many new motherboards carry only one IDE port making it difficult connecting more than one optical drives if you keep booting from the IDE hard drive.Manufacturers think you should boot from a SATA drive and forget about using the IDE hard drive.Good luck.

Reply: (edit)I suspect that those converters are only for hard drives. I've found that some PCI IDE controller cards also only work with hard drives and not with optical drives. Do yourself a favor BACKUP!
