I have a weird problem. When I start to boot the computer the pc is searching for the hdd (primary master ide) for about five minutes, doesnīt find it, tries to boot with the floppy but doesnīt make it. When I do ctrl+alt+del to start it all over, it still doesnīt work. Actually it does if i repeat this process more than once. then, the pc works as usual, windows starts up and c:/ is found as a regular drive, no data lost. i didnīt change anything in bios for a long time, but tried to set all to default yesterday (nothing changed).

i prepared myself from losing data by installing a new 60gb-drive as primary slave ide. i even changed the ide cable.

what can i do to get my hdd working "normal" again?

i recently found out that my ide controller (dual fifo) says it has error code 10 and that i should update my driver (what i did, actually).

after a friend told me its maybe because the battery is low i put a new one in but nothing changed.

i donīt know what to do anymore. can u help?

replace old cables with new ones. if it can solve the problem, replace HD. ( u already got one right? make the new one master to see what will happen)
