Hi all folks,
I am going to run Run_From_CD version of Linux on WinME and W2K PC. In order not to mess with the existing OS can I disable the BIOS from detecting IDE hard disk instead of disconnecting the power cable to the Hard disk. If the hard disk is connected to a PCI hard disk controller card/adapter could still I do the same way?

Change the boot order in your bios to boot from the cd (then floppy, then hdd). Linux should be the only os to load.

hello setting bios not to detect hard drive should work .but the absolutsure way is your other methoud of disconectin power to that other hard drive.you dont want linux to format it to its file type.

Hi all,
Thanks for your advice.
Setting boot priority is not absolutely safe to avoid the Run_From_CD version Linux not to communicate with the hard drive. The best way is disconnecting the power cable to hard drive but resulting in open_and_close PC box. For such a reason I am considering to diable IDE dedection on BIOS. But I have no experience on this method whether still there will be a risk messing the hard drive. If YES what will be the alternative.
