IDE controller or mobo prob

When booting, the HDD is recognized but when I try to run win xp installer from a cd, it can't find a hard disk. Is this a problem with my IDE controller? or is it the motherboard? or something else? Any ideas anyone?

In win setup screen, where it shows the partitioned/unpartitioned space, I get.

Try using fdisk to partition the disk. If it works try xp again, if not try swapping ide ribbons, ide channels, jumper positions, ie if your using cselect try making it master etc. Finally swap the hd to see if thats the problem. Prolly not saying anything you haven't tried but good luck. Jim

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried several things. Swapping cables, moving jumpers, swapping HDD. What finally worked was using the IDE cable that the removable drive was using. So am concluding that the PCI controller card is the one at fault. What threw me off completely was that I was able to install dos from floppies to the HDD that was connected to the controller. Isn't that weird? Windows is installing right now. I hope there are no further problems!!
