Comment:

I recently purchased an X-Alien case, but have been unable to find round IDE cables that will allow me to mount the hard drive in any of the bays. I bought an 18" and a 24" cable, but both of them are too short between the slave (CD ROM) and the master hard drive. The length between the MB connector and the slave connector is actually too long (but I could live with this). I currently have my slave (CD) in the lowest bay, but the cables are too short to reach the hard drive (master) even when it's mounted in the bay nearest the slave drive (the upper-most hard drive bay in this case). Does anyone know where I can get round IDE cables for this case?

Thanks,
guy

Here are a couple of suggestions via a couple of links that mey help you withis problem, make sure you read all the information associated with these links before you commit.

If links below do not become active links correctly, cut and paste into the address bar of your browser.

1) above is probably your best bet, since it will allow you to use a PCI card mounted higher on the MotherBoard, this should with the help of the longer cables (18" , 24" or 36' Item 2 above)should give you so added reach.

Side Note as well, Some folks do not trust the TigerDirect on-line company, I however have been buying from them for about 5 years now and have had no trouble with them at all, if you don't like this company, just view the information and search for another supplier.

Good luck, hope this helps.

Home many drives do you have? If the second IDE is not being used then can you connect the CDROM to it.

As a last resort you could pick up a PCI ATA/133 controller board. That would give you up to 8 IDE devices with four being masters. Even if you had four drives each could have its own cable.

Thanks for the responses. I have 3 drives. Secondary master is a burner. Honestly, I was hoping to find a manufacturer that makes cables of various lenghts, - that would seem to be the easiest, and most direct solution, but haven't had any luck in that direction. Thanks again.

The spec for an ultra DMA IDE cable is approximately 18 inches max. Most of the time longer cables will work.

You should hook your two cd drives together on the second channel and the hard rive by itself on the first. CD drivers are slower than hard drives and will slow down the hard drive if they are on the same channel.
