Comment: Is it possible to have more than 2 HDDs on one IDE cable? If you can, how do I add another one? Thanks. Corrie

Reply: (edit)Is it physically possible? I suppose, but then how would you connect the ribbon to the IDE Controller/Mother Board? Is it possible from a technology standpoint? No.

Reply: (edit)Thanks Razor. Then how do I do this? I have 2 HDDs and then 2 DVDRW in my machine. I want to add a 3rd HDD. I don't have SATA on my m/board. Any suggestions. Corrie

Reply: (edit)For full flexability verify the controller card you get will operate optical drives as well as harddrives. Not all will. There aare combo cards that will allow you to use IDE and SATA together.

Reply: (edit)Why do you need two DVDRW drives? Remove one & use the connection for the 3rd HDD. Or buy a controller card as was suggested.

Reply: (edit)I have 2 DVDRW.... much faster and more convenient when reading/writing directly from disk to disk as opposed to disk-to-HDD-to-disk

Reply: (edit)There's always a risk when burning "on the fly"...especially if the optical drives are on the same IDE cable/channel. If you feel you must burn from disc-to-disc, make sure the optical drives are on different IDE channels. Otherwise, burning from disc-to-HDD-to-disc takes a bit longer, but it's the better way to go.

Reply: (edit)If you purchase a controller card, make sure to get one that's 48 bit LBA compatible. That way you won't be limited to drives under 127 gb. You might consider getting a SATA controller. IDE drives will be more difficult to find in the future.

Reply: (edit)aegis I started to include that but then decided all the retailers have gotten rid of the old cards. Didn't think of the seconadary market though. EBay, flea markets, etc.

Reply: (edit)Thanks to all. I have decided to look for another MB with SATA. It will have to be slow process of replacing the 2 DVDRW to SATA or the 2 HDDs. Will have to see what is going to be cheaper. Does anybody have a MB like that for me for free. LOL

Reply: (edit)There are MBoard with 2 IDE controllers and 4/6 SATA ports in both Intel and AMD. State your preference and someone will have suggestions.
