Comment:

I dropped by IBM thinkpad today while it was on - there are no visible damages.

However it now refuses to boot to the OS - it starts directly to the Intel Boot Agent and reports: 'Operating System not found'

What steps can I take to solve this?

Make sure that the cable is still connected to the HD correctly.

I agree, you need to suspect the mechanical or electrical issues with the hard drive.

See also bios, guess it could have somehow got reset in the drop. Be sure you can detect the hard drive in bios.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
