IBM thinkpad error...hard drive not found

every now and then, my computer will not boot up and I receive a black screen with two beeps: message is hard drive cannot be found. After several attempts to reboot by powering off and then back on the computer works. What can I do to fix. Running windows XP. Lenovo IBM Thinkpad R40

If you know how to get to the hard drive, try re-seating it.
