Hi,
My IBM thinkpad gives I9990301 error. I went through website and it mentions as given below. Does anyone have a idea about how to rest boot drive...
I9990301: Hard disk error. I9990302: Invalid hard disk boot record. I9990305: No bootable device. 1. Check that the operating system is installed in the hard disk drive. If not, install the operating system. 2. Reseat the boot device. 3. Check the startup sequence for the correct boot device. 4. Check that the operating system has no failure and is installed correctly.

I believe you have answered your own question, the hard drive is not recognised in BIOS. As it is Laptop it is either the hard drive needs reseating or the hard drive has died.

Do you have any of the manuals for your laptop? I don't remember if they are still at (used to be IBM) Lenovo support or not.
If you cannot find them there, try this site. I just tried to bring it up, it seems to be down. Might try later. This site had archives of just about all older Thinkpad stuff. Read the top "index00" file, and look for the "hardware maintenance manual." Also, the user manual should tell you how to swap out the hard drive. There is just one little screw on the bottom, that holds the hard drive cover. After that cover is off, the hard drive should be right there, with a little "pull" tab
