Hey Everybody, I'm doing some work on a friends computer. They have an IBM Thinkpad that was rebuilt w/ a 900 mobile celeron and 120 RAM, and runs windows XP home.

Here's the problem. At bootup, you get a couple error messeges.

0250: System battery id dead - Replace and run SETUP
0270 - Real time clock error

Those messeges lead me to believe that the battery on the motherboard is dead. But I get more messeges a couple seconds later:

ERROR
Warning: IRQ not configued - PCI
BUus : 00 Device : 13 Function : 00
ERROR
Warning: IRQ not configued - PCI
Bus : 00 Device : 0A Function : 00
ERROR
Warning: IRQ not configued - PCI
Bus : 00 Device : 0C Function : 00

Now this just leads me to believe the IRQ ports are not assigned properly, so I went into the bios and 4 of them were all set to 15. I changed tehm all to auto-select. Now when I reboot, if I'm plugged into the wall, it'll go past this and try to load windows, if I'm not it heads right into bios again. Anyways when it tries to load windows no matter what I select (safe mode, normal, etc...) it always gets the BOOT UNMOUNTABLE blue screen.

1 last thing. While I was snooping around the BIOS, on 3 seperate occasions both when I was plugged into the wall and when I wasn't, the BIOS froze.

So does anybody have any ideas as to what is happening here? My personal opinion is that the motherboard is failing, unless the battery on the motherboard is causing all this but last I checked I thought that battery only controlled the internal clock.

Anyways, any and all ideas will be appreciated, thanks loads

Peace -

Replace the battery first. a dead battery can cause strange things to happen. especially if it is partially shorted.

If you attempt this you may luck out and have a socketed battery. if it is soldered in place, don't unsolder it from the motherboard. cut the leads and either solder to them or to a battery socket.

Well I replaced the battery, and it just goes immediately to the blue screen after I configure the IRQ ports in the bios no matter whether its plugged into the wall or not, so thats good. But I also received this error after rebooting from the blue screen:

0188: Invalid RFID Serialization Information Area or Bard CRC2

I don't have any idea what that means, but from there I tried to enter the bios and it froze again... and when I rebooted it, it through my old errors at me again w/ the system battery dead, real time clock error.

Any other ideas?
