Reply: (edit)This is usually due to keyboard, trackpoint or system board error. Fault sequence: Reseat the keyboard cable on the system board Keyboard External mouse System board Internet search engines are your friends.

Reply: (edit)system board = motherboard. Well, that's what IBM says the 8611 error means. How do you know the keyboard fully works if it won't boot? You are using the laptop's keyboard and not an external one?? Internet search engines are your friends. Morpheus: There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path. "The Matrix"

Reply: (edit)Sorry, you didn't say it wouldn't boot :-) But if ALL keyboard keys work and the trackpoint works, there is definitely something goofy going on. Internet search engines are your friends. Morpheus: There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path. "The Matrix"

Reply: (edit)Oh well, I am messed up. original question remains: If it won't boot, how do you know ALL keys and the trackpoint, work on the laptop's keyboard??? I wish to heck they had an edit function here - then I wouldn't look so dorky. :-) Internet search engines are your friends.

Reply: (edit)Yea , but still - you don't know ALL the keys are working and the trackpoint also, do you? You can download PC Doctor from www.ibm.com (Lenovo) which goes on floppies and will tell you if you stuff is working like it should INCLUDING all the keyboard. As I stated before, that is what IBM says the error code means. Internet search engines are your friends.
