Stop dreaming about a processor upgrade on a laptop. Check the IBM web site for compatible hard drives or ask them. It will depend on BIOS limitations, etc. and they will know.

Why do you think you need XP? What can you not now do? You will need to upgrade the RAM and the hard drive to tolerate that, plus you will still have a slow processor by today's standards. Not a very cost effectiuve way to go on an older machine.

Actually, a 600E CAN be upgraded, but it's not necessarily painless.

Start here:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/index.php

Go here and read this:

do a search on Google as thus

"thinkpad", 600e, "cpu upgrade"

and thus:

"thinkpad", 600e, "mmc2"

and...

"thinkpad", 600e, "mmc-2"

You are going to find it CAN be upgraded some, that there are some tricks, some downfalls, and some pitfalls.

I THINK the best you'll do, without a lot of tweaking and trouble, is 500mhz or so, and maybe 700 or a little better.

You have a LOT of reading to do with what I gave you.

Good luck if you go that route.

Do not waste your time. There is nothing you can do to painlessly run XP on a 600 series Thinkpad.

WILL POST FOR FOOD.
