Hey all
I have an IBM Thinkpad 600e (that i use mostly for GPS Navigation - works GREAT!) and was considering adding a DVD/ROM drive to watch movies and what not. Does anyone know if it will definetely work and be fluid before i shell out the $. I was also wondering if there is a way to UPGRADE the video card, seeing that it's only 2.5mb. Any other upgrades (bios upgrade, overclock, etc...) that you think could be worth it would be welcome as well.
System specs are:
IBM Thinkpad 600e 2645
PII 366Mhz
288 mb ram
30 Gig hd
O/S: Win2000Thanks!

You might be able to upgrade the video buy purchasing a PCMCIA video card and disabling the onboard video. As to whether or not you can put a DVD into it....talk to your nearest IBM ASP (authorized service provider) or call IBM themselves and ask. To be honest, I'd just call IBM, you should be able to get a customer support number off their web site. They'll be able to answer both questions for you.

wondering if you found out the answer to the upgrade video card, Im interested in upgrading mine too. thanks

Hey J
Haven't had a chance to call IBM yet, and still waiting for a little more feedback and suggestions before I buy a PCMCIA card. If I find out for SURE that it'll make a difference, I'll repost for sure. I maxed out the RAM (288 mb) and swapped out for a larger (30 Gig) HardDrive, and it run's smooth, but I have concerns as to whether the diminutive 366 Mhz processor will be able to handle the high demands of fluid video, or if it even has anything to do with it. Hopefully SOMEONE will have more knowledge than I, which really isn't saying much! lol
Thanks for posting.

I have a TP 600e with a 300Mhz processor, 128Mb of RAM and the internal video card (thats is not too god, but works), running XP and it play DVD´s great, but U´ll have to download from ibm the latest drives for video, upgrade the BIOS and th DVD firmware (all on ibms page). I´m looking for a PCMCIA card, but for now I´m using what i have. Go to :
