Ibm Thinkpad 560x time keeping problems

Ibm / Thinkpad 560x

Specs: windows 98se/2000, pentium mmx 233mhz
I own an IBM Thinkpad 560x Which I found thrown in the middle of the road (2 years ago) despite of the fact that it was completely operative. The only problem it still has, even now that I have changed the battery pack, is that it can not keep time and date. So each time I shut down the PC and I turn it on after 2-3 Hours ( not restart) error messages are displayed ( :161 , 163), and then I have to set date and time to continue. Furthermore, sometimes more errors are displayed (173), and it says that I have to run an "easy setup" test, which if I run everything is OK except of the memory(sometimes), but when I restart, everything is OK. Bios Upgrade? (it is still with the old version November 97 ) CMOS battery replacement or memory (RAM) replacement?

Change the cmos battery and that should take care of your date and time errors.

" was completely operative..."

... if its "not" asking for a bios password and you change the cmos battery it should clear those errors

... if it asks for bios password after battery change and you do'nt know it throw it into a different street or keep it as a "paperweight"
