Hi!
I have recently lent my friends laptop to install some new software for him, and I accidentally activated the HD password. I do know the password, but I can't turn it off.
When I enter the BIOS setup and go to the password section, the HD password image is greyed out and when I click it, it beeps twice and does nothing. I have tried removing the CMOS battery and formatting the HD itself but they have not worked. Does anybody know how to disable the HD password on the ThinkPad 380D? Thank you.
xeriouxi.

Not too sure about the ThinkPad, but knowing HP it's probably the same - I had same problem on an Omnibook and eventually found the only way to reset was to either send it back to HP (they need original sales invoice etc.) or you can get replacement chips from on-line auctions. This seems to be part of HP's idea for protecting (very succesfully) against stolen laptops - makes them virtually useless to the average thief. Sorry can't be more helpful.

Ain't "Google" wonnnerful?

Ya know, IBM probably has some of the very best online support there is, anywhere, for anything. I've been to HP, Comcrap, Gatecow, and a few other places, and IBM is sometimes complicated to find stuff. MAN, took me almost 5 minutes to find this stuff!!!!!!!!
