Specs: Windows XP
After extended use, usually about 5 or 6 hours my keyboard freezes up and wont type. However its a very specific problem. I can still ALT and TAB between windows, i just cant affect any of them with my keyboard. I can also still use CTRL ALT DEL to lock my workstation and when i try and log back in i can use the keyboard to enter my password. However other keyboard commands such as ALT and F4 do not work. This problem affects Internet explorer, Microsoft word, even notepad.

A basic restart of my system restores full functionality of my system however its driving me crazy as to how this could be happening.

Does anyone know how i could fix this or has anyone even heard of such an issue before?

Have you done any experiment with a different keyboard? If so did the problem go away?

I have tried a different keyboard of the same model with the same results.

It is a problem i have at work and onsite support have only offered the usual solution ie reboot, but this wasts valuable time each day.

We only have the one type of keyboard in my office.

Suppose on reflection this must mean it is a software rather than a hardware issue?

Yeah, likely the problem is not the keyboard. After several hours it could be a heat problem.

If it's software related you may want to check task manager and see what you've got running.

Now that's what I call a sticky situation
