Hello,
I have a IBM Netvista White Desktop PC. I recently installed RAM (1X- 64 MB), the computer beeps 1 - 3 - 1. Does this have anything to do with the new RAM? Could the RAM be fryed?
Just spent an hour today pulling hard drives out of NetVista's.
Just behind the heat sink is a large capacitor ...and out of 27 machines 18 had a bad cap.
That to may be a problem for you.
Hope you just need a card.

It's the code you get with a bad or incompatible (likely) memory stick. Could also be the motherboard.
One long beep and two or three short beeps during post should point to a bad video card or motherboard.
If you just restore the original memory configuration, you should be good to go.

Netvista is a name that was used on a huge variation of different IBM machines. Just because one type of Netvista had faulty capacitors does not mean all Netvistas have the same problems. It might be the same type of netvista by chance. In my experience bulging capacitors have not caused beeps. They cause problems like the computer not booting or the PC becoming unreliable in use but i have not come accross it causing beeps myself, but I am not saying it could never happen.
