IBM hard drive high pitched noise

Hi, My IBM hard drive is making an awful high pitched noise and i don't know how to stop it. It has been making this noise for months now, however i'm still affraid it could crash. What can i do? Please help me, this awful sound just drives me mad -remy

Is it under warrenty? Are you sure its the hdd and not fans?

I think it's under warranty (i'm not in the town where i bought it right now, so i can't come back to the shop), but i've heard that IBM hdd have a 3 year warranty (don't know if that's true though) I'm quite sure this comes from the hdd, i've spend a long time testing everything. When i power on the computer, and when the hdd power supply is not connected, there is no such noise. Furthermore, when i put the PC in "energy economy" mode (i don't know the correct word : the hdds&creen are turned off, but not the processor) the noise stops. Weird... -remy
