Hi
When logging in, I was taken away from the post I had initially posted in, so to get to the crux of my first mission, a used Aptiva portable PC that seems rather hard to find, it has built in stereo speakers but upon setting up fresh with Win98, the video and audio, amojng other issues, were left unpatched via the install disk!
I searched online to get the video driver but the audio is still missing. I also had to resort to a ISA slot modem, not my first choice as the PCI modems of modern vintage were also having issues, even with software in hand. Often times audio and modems are sharing utilities in the driver arena, as I seem to understand it... Any help on this SiS onboard chipset mobo IBM, I'd love REAL helpful links and not some I'd seen to date. SiS's on site is dodgy at best for old support help! I hate that, but it's often understandable with technology ever marching forward.

One point I harped on in my first post was a used HP PC that kept rebooting WinXP with no real diagnostic. At some point I recalled the CPU borrowed from an illfated PC and that it might be at issue. Moving to a SlotKET version 370 CPU, the issue was put to bed. It's worthy of mentioning this also happened the same way for a bad memory card, it appeared somewhat working and did work for a while but caused the system to hang eventually, or reboot

Check IBM's website. They should have all the latest drivers you're looking for.

I'm aware that manufacturer's SHOULD have support drivers for their hardware, but due to the abundance of hardware put out over such a time frame, I find that's not always the case.... With the old PC's I came across anyway, it's hunt and peck for the specific missing drivers. I need someway for the Aptiva PC mentioned to recognize it's PCI slots, even the 56K ISA card is having some sort of trouble. The 33.3K modem was the only one that the computer seemed to recognize. I tried to auto seach my Windows disks for the drivers, and I would normally assume that to work, given XP's, for example, fine database of drivers when installing
