IBM 600E laptop problems

OS: XP Pro
CPU/Ram: 366MHz/ 228MB Ram

i can't get it to boot of the cd rom or off the hard drive that is in it. when i get in to the bios i start the system test and it go to test the memory and it frezzes up. i thank the hard drive is bad and that i need a new hard drive.

will it take a higher mmc 2 processor than 366MHz.

it has
366MHz mmc 2 processor pentium 2
228MB ram pc100, pc133
12GB hdd
network card
cd-rom

Pull out all added memory--it should run with the "onboard" RAM

Pull out the hdd, and then try and boot with a floppy or CDROM.

RErun the diagnostics with the hdd and RAM out of the system.
